Happy 4 month hatchdate to you...

So glad to be back with my baby

I took a trip up to see family in Pennsylvania and missed him terribly. I was nervous leaving him but the husband took excellent care of Papaya while I was gone. This pic was taken right before I left for the airport. He was so excited to see me. The first day I got back he kept leaping off his playstand and waddled over to be close to me. He learned to use his feet to hold his food while I was gone.

I love this budweiser commercial.
watch!

LMAO

I found this somewhere on the net and I laughed so hard. I understand how it can be frustrating to get your bird to stay on your hand and not your shoulder or head but all the bird has to do is get off the perch thing and climb on up. I think the inventor needs to go back to the drawing board, nice try though ;)

A little birdy told me...

help get me outta here! I came out to the sunporch to get on the computer and a bird was sitting on some speakers we have out here. It even perched on my old budgie cage for awhile. I grabbed my camera then toweled and released it. Good luck bird!

Papaya turns 3 months old

Papaya has hit the 3 month milestone today. The little guy has gone from a small 3 week old that could fit in the palm of your hand to a big, beautiful, and loving bird.

He CAN FLY!!!!

Yes he is flighted!!! After I took the footage below of Papaya flapping into the cage I took him into the kitchen for a feeding. I placed him in a chair and began to mix up some formula. He wanted fed NOW and flew over me! It freaked me out, all I could hear was the wooosh of his wings and there he was clinging to my arm. So I put him back to see if he would do it again. The clips below.

I've had my digital camera for a year and a half and I'm now just figuring out how to take videos. I started a channel on YouTube check it out

videoI've gotten into toy making over the last couple days. It's fun watching him discover and play with them. I'm sure they will be chewed to bits in no time. Today he was happily hanging upside down from the top of his cage and as I entered to hang a toy he lept off the bars and landed on my head! I don't know if he meant to land on my head or if he fell on accident but it was pretty funny and sort of painful. I could hear his beak scraping my head as he tried to stay on..yowch!!
The FULL blood test results came in yesterday and he has a small infection. Bacteria and yeast. I have to cut out the cheerios and birdie bread from his diet for awhile, I picked up his antibiotics today. He's still his same old active and happy self but I hope the meds clear him up so I can be worry free!

I've pulled my husband into the wonderful world of parrots, he has become attached to Papaya a lot more recently. All on his own he came up with the idea to make Papaya a perchstand. We went to the hardware store and bought all the supplies and he put the monsterous thing up with lightning speed. We still need to put some finishing touches on it but here's a look at our "not spoiled at all" bird's perchstand/big space taker upper.

Now Papaya has enough balance to perch on a chair while I'm in the kitchen. He sits there and watches everything going on around him. One of these days he's going to lift off and take that first flight.

DNA results are in....

The vet called today with the sexing results. Papaya is a male. It's nice to know instead of wondering. When referring to him we always used "he" so now we know we aren't confusing his gender lol.

Photobucket Pics

Photobucket editing tools are fun. I fixed up some pics today.

Photobucket

Papaya grew impatient with me this morning while I tried to do about 5 other things and make his formula at the same time. Multitasking isn't a good idea when you have a hungry baby. He climbed atop his bin for the first time. His agility and balance is improving quite rapidly. I was so proud ;)

Not only did he make it up to the lip of the bin but he glided down and landed right in front of me.

Here he is climbing up to my shoulder. Oi I need some sun!

Look ma no hands!

Vintage art

I love these pieces of vintage artwork.
I took Papaya outside today, he didn't mind his tether but he did freak out some when we were in the yard. He's not used to being outdoors, I'm sure he just needs time.
Oh, I edited my blog to where you can now leave comments so drop me a line I love hearing from
people :)

Cuddles and kisses and love oh my! This morning Papaya scrambled over for some well deserved attention. It's awsome how he likes to be so close. He's a snuggler...aww ;)

We paid a visit to the vet yesterday because I was concerned about his face. Lately it's been looking quite sunken in. The vet said his fat has yet to fill in and that its normal. He got blood drawn and all the cultures. We'll see in 7-10 days if he's completely healthy. While we had blood available I decided to get him sexed. Papaya may just be female we'll see! He did well but was a little sketchy of the vet toweling him. I would be too it's an awful sight.

Two buddies in the toy bin!
Papaya is 69 days old today, (just about 10 ten weeks old). He's a heavy bugger this morning he weighed 1,066 grams.
I finally found a better material to line his big cage. I had been using bed sheets and towels and it was a mess to have to keep doing poopy laundry. NEWSPAPER has saved me SO much time....yes newspaper who would've thought :) That deserves a head boink.....

Hello!

Look at me perching!

Waving hello! Today Papaya is 2 months and 3 days old. This picture was taken a couple days ago and this morning when I went in to check on him his whole chest was covered in yellow feathers. He's growing so fast!

8 weeks old

Here's Papaya testing out his big bird food. He loves making a mess of his food bowl. So far he's tried grapes, blueberries, corn, carrots, peas, green beans, sprouts, oranges, birdie bread, pellets, nutriberries, beans, pasta, millet, broccoli, apples, and apricots.

6-7 weeks continued

6-7 weeks old

Papaya would rest with this bird tucked under his wing.

He loves my daughters "Chick Stories" book. He becomes mesmerized and pays more attention to the stories that rhyme.

5 weeks old

He learned to play on his own early on. He loves to rattle his linky doos.

Week 3-4

Some out of bin play and exercise. Our daughter was frightened of Papaya at first, she thought he was going to bite her. She didn't understand that his beak was still soft and he didn't have any control of it yet. In the "E.T." stage Papaya was active, alert, and very happy with his surroundings. In the bottom photo Papaya is a month old. He seemed to grow feathers overnight. So beautiful!

Papaya at 3 weeks

At 3 weeks of age he didn't really move about. He did a sort of scoot thing. He mostly slept and cuddled into my chin. He loved to rock with me in my daughters teeny tiny rocking chair :)
